A big field has been confirmed for Saturday’s 2016 Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) at Morphettville Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Believe has returned to racing in strong form this time and remains outright $3.60 favourite in 2016 SA Fillies Classic betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Chabaud ($4.60) and She’s Got Speed ($6).
Will Believe justify favouritism and win the 2016 SA Fillies Classic, or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Believe has been charged with overcoming the wide and awkward barrier 19 in the 2016 SA Fillies Classic, but has found great form leading into the race and should prove very hard to beat under the conditions. Posting two wins and as many minors through six career starts, the Fastnet Rock filly finished third in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) on March 12th; luckless when ninth in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) but responding with a career-best performance for third in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) on Day 2 of The Championships. Having since finished sixth in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m), Believe should relish a step-up to 2500m on Saturday and will be partnered by leading local hoop Dom Tourneur.
Concubine is another filly that has drawn awkwardly in barrier 16, but the gate should not make much of a difference over 2500m and she is over the odds at her current quote of $14 for success or $4.20 to finish in the first three. Transferred to the care of David Hayes & Tom Dabernig after only one start for Gai Waterhouse, Concubine resumed this time for third in a Geelong minor over 1200m on March 19th before posting her only win to date in the XXXX Gold Maiden Plate (1400m) on March 31st. Making a credible transition to black type company when sixth in the Listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) on April 9th, the Redoute’s Choice filly finished mid-pack in the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) on April 23rd, and improved for fifth in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (2020m) most recently on April 30th.
Vandancer carries excellent form into the SA Fillies Classic and is a leading chance of a first three finish in the Group 3 race. Resuming this year for fifth in the Functions At PRC Maiden Plate (1400m) on February 18th, the Savabeel filly charged clear to post a maiden race win in the BMD Urban Plate (1600m) on March 10th before placing third in the Mitavite Challenge Heat 7 (1600m). Returning from a brief freshen-up for success in the Polytrack BM64 (2100m) on April 20th, Vandancer undoubtedly faces her biggest task to date in the SA Fillies Classic, but has proven she is capable of performing over a trip.
