Ungrateful Ellen Primed for 2015 SA Fillies Classic

May 13th, 2015

Talented filly Ungrateful Ellen has returned to racing in slick form this season and is reportedly in campaign-best condition ahead of her major target; the Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

Ungrateful Ellen returned for a credible third in the Andy’s Earthmovers BM64 (1400m) on April 2nd; progressing to success in the Anzac Day Centenary Cup (1600m) before boxing on for an impressive fifth in the featured Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) a fortnight ago.

Confirming the 2015 SA Fillies Classic is the race she has been set for this time in, Smerdon told Racing Ahead he has been thrilled with the form of and results posted by the daughter of Grey Swallow and believes she again lay a great account for herself on Saturday.

“She runs in the Classic – that’s always been her aim this preparation,” Smerdon said.

“We went through the Australasian Oaks and she just finished outside the top four.

“It’s black-type for her going forward but this has been her aim … Craig Williams to ride.

“Stays really well and last time in the Australasian Oaks it was the first time she got beyond 1600m and she finished off as we hoped she would.

“She looks like she’ll run out the extra without much trouble.”

Posting a total of two wins and three minors through her ten start career so far, Ungrateful Ellen quickly built to the task over a strong Spring Carnival campaign; running fourth in the John Duff & Co BM70 (1400m) and second in the Callaghan Motors BM70 (1600m) most notably before ending her campaign fourth in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m).

Needing luck in running from the outside barrier 15, Ungrateful Ellen has been confirmed to be partnered by last start jockey Craig Williams in the 2015 SA Fillies Classic.
