May 13th, 2015

Fifteen talented three-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) at Morphettville; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the autumn’s standout runners.

Bahamas has debuted to racing in slick form this time and is sure to be offered a gem of a ride from regular and champion jockey Damien Oliver in the 2015 SA Fillies Classic from the central barrier 8.

Finishing outside the first three only once in six career starts so far, Bahamas quickly found exceptional form in running fourth in the Evergreen Turf Maiden Plate (1400m) and second in the Hygain Maiden Plate (1600m) before breaking through for her first win in the TAB Maiden Plate (1600m) on March 16th.

Having since placed second to Fontein Ruby in the Listed Alexandra Stakes (1600m) and finished third in the featured Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) most notably, the Teofilo filly will be very hard to beat on Saturday.

Ungrateful Ellen boxed on for a credible fifth in the Australasian Oaks most recently but will need some luck in running on Saturday after drawing the outside barrier for the 2015 SA Fillies Classic.

Posting two wins and a further three minors through ten career starts, the Grey Swallow filly ended a pleasing debut campaign fourth in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) on November 5th; returning this time for third in the Andy’s Earthmovers BM64 (1400m) on April 2nd.

Having taken out the Anzac Centenary Cup (1600m) in her only other start prior to the Australasian Oaks, Ungrateful Ellen seems to be looking for most distance and will be partnered by last start jockey Craig Williams in the SA Fillies Classic.

Interestingly, only two runners carry winning form into the 2015 SA Fillies Classic, however both; Monopole (barrier 3) and Kiwi Colleen (barrier 14) face a far tougher task this weekend.

Placing second in a pair of Gawler races over 1700m upon resuming this time, Monopole ran third in the Listed Tasmanian Oaks (2100m) on February 22nd; failing to make an impact in the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) but returning to the winner’s circle in the Real Estate Agents Handicap (2122m) on May 7th.

Steadily building to the task over her four career starts so far, Kiwi Colleen placed second in the Racing.com Handicap (2030m) before posting her first race win over 2200m at Bendigo on May 1st.
