Tune Up Confirmed for 2015 SA Fillies Classic Chance Snow Secret

April 30th, 2015

Trainer Shaune Ritchie has revealed he will use results of Saturday’s Terminus Hotel Healesville Plate at Caulfield as a key indicator as to whether or not Snow Secret will head to Adelaide for the Group 2 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) on May 16th.

Having contested just three competitive starts since debuting for Ritchie at the beginning of the year, Snow Secret failed to figure when eighth in the Cal Isuzu Maiden (1400m) but has since won both the Richardsonracing.co.nz Maiden (1600m) and Dargaville Museum BM65 (1800m) in recent weeks.

Confident the conditions of the 2015 SA Fillies Classic are more likely to suit the Sakhee’s Secret filly than Saturday’s event, Ritchie told Racing Victoria he is pleased with the condition of the three-year-old.

“She’s a three-year-old filly and, as we know, from the 1st of August Black Type is so much harder to get,” Ritchie said.

“The main goal for her is the Adelaide Classic in two weeks’ time, so we thought if we flew into Melbourne and ran her at Caulfield on Saturday that would give us a guideline as to whether we should press ahead to Adelaide or just bring her home.

“She’s probably going to be better suited to the 2500 in two weeks than the 2000 this week, but we’re looking for an encouraging run to help us to press on.

“She’s won the two races nicely and she’s been a little green as well. She’s probably got to sharpen up a little bit professionalism-wise, but we don’t know how good she is or isn’t yet.

“She’s out of a Zabeel mare and she certainly looks very much like a Zabeel – she’s got a big, deep girth and a lovely big curve on her shoulder – so staying should be her forte.”

Having been allocated the somewhat wide barrier 12 for this weekend’s tilt, Snow Secret has been confirmed to be partnered by resurgent veteran hoop Glen Boss, but should find good running position early according to Ritchie.

“She will get back anyway, so I’m less concerned about that than most horses,” he added.
