2014 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic Nominations Released

Just ten three-year-olds have been nominated for this weekend’s Group 2 Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley Racecourse, highlighted by the inclusion of several notable performers over the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival so-far.

Finishing a disappointing eighth when jumping favourite in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) last time out, trainer Robert Smerdon is confident of a return to competitive form for Lumosty in the 2014 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic.

Securing one race win and three minors over her six competitive starts so far, Lumosty finished second to Eloping in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) on debut on January 25th; returning to the paddock after running third in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 8th.

Finishing second in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) and winning the Oxford Landing Maiden Plate (1400m) by nine lengths most notably prior to the Thousand Guineas, the Fastnet Rock filly is likely to revel when stepping back in classy for the 2014 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic.

Running on to finish a credible fifth in the Thousand Guineas last time out, trainer Clinton McDonald has nominated Tahni Dancer for the 2014 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic.

Securing one win and two minors from her nine competitive appearances on course to date, Tahni Dancer has without doubt returned to racing in career-best form this time in; finishing third amongst classy competition in the Simpson Construction Plate (1200m) before securing her maiden race in in the 3.y.o Fillies Plate (1200m) on September 14th.

Running a close second in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) on September 29th in what was her only other start prior to the Thousand Guineas, Tahni Dancer is a proven performer on all grades of running surfaces and can overcome the widest of barriers.

Saddled by leading Victorian trainer Danny O’Brien, Feels Like Home is yet to find peak condition over two starts this time in, but is offered a great chance of figuring in contention in the Moonee Valley Fillies Classic.

Performing well over four starts through autumn highlighted by a strong win a Fillies Maiden race over 1100m and third behind subsequent Group 1 winner Go Indy Go in the Group 3 Sires’ Produce Open (1400m) in April, O’Brien has been thrilled with the form displayed by the More Than Ready filly over the last fortnight and is expecting a competitive effort in her maiden Group 2 appearance this weekend.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
