2010 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic Final Field & Preview

February 24th, 2010

The next group feature race for fillies takes place this Friday night at Moonee Valley as the Melbourne club hosts the $200, 000 Group 2 Fillies Classic (1600) in another thrilling night of racing.

The Moonee Valley Fillies Classic is open to three-year-old fillies only and this year the event has attracted nine of the most exciting young females, many on their way towards the prestigious $400, 000 Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1600m) on March 6 at Flemington’s Super Saturday of Racing.

Starting in the coveted barrier one is Peter Moody’s promising filly Speedy Natalie. Despite her dismal eighth place finish in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) to Tallow at Flemington two starts ago, Speedy Natalie is improving and since then has won a 1500m race at Moonee Valley. Her experience and favourable draw will help her on Friday night.

The calibre of rivals Speedy Natalie faces in the 2010 Fillies Classic is top class, with the Anthony Cummings-trained Tallow gaining a lot of popularity with the punters and bookies. The last start The Vanity winner has the stocks and speed to overcome her wide barrier eight barrier draw and secure her fourth career win.

Also lining up in the Fillies Classic on Friday night is Teo Rossa, the classy Testa Rossa filly starting from barrier six as she attempts her third consecutive victory, and Aloha out wide in barrier nine to be ridden by Damien Oliver.

The 2010 Fillies Classic is programmed as the sixth race at Moonee Valley’s great eight-event card and is due to commence at 9:15 pm (VIC time).
